Twenty Pounds, Four Months, One Client Who Believed

How my wife lost 20 lb — and gained 20 lb of confidence — in under four months. The story I still tell every new client on their first call.

Twenty Pounds, Four Months, One Client Who Believed

Before she ever became a case study on this site, she was the reason I became a coach. My wife is the person who told me to follow my heart when I was still grinding at a job I did not love, prepping meals in the middle of the night, and treating my home gym like a second home. She saw the coach in me before I did. So when she asked me to program for her, I took it seriously in a way I have taken every client since.

The starting line

She wanted to feel strong before a surgery she had scheduled. She was not chasing a number on a scale. She was chasing the version of herself who could walk into that hospital feeling capable. We had roughly sixteen weeks to work with, and the goal was simple: build the habits so completely that they would still hold after recovery.

What the plan looked like

Four training sessions a week. Two full-body strength days built around squat, hinge, push, pull, and carry. Two conditioning days with the elliptical and short kettlebell circuits. Ninety minutes total on training days including warm-up, work, and mobility. That was the ceiling. On days she felt great she did the ceiling. On days life pushed back she did half and moved on with no guilt.

  • Protein target: 130g per day, hit six of seven days a week.
  • Calorie window: 1,650 to 1,750, tracked but not obsessed over.
  • Sunday meal prep, non-negotiable, done together.
  • One planned meal out per week, no math required at the table.

What actually moved the needle

It was not the sessions. The sessions were the reward. What moved the needle was the Sunday prep. Every weekend we cooked five days of protein and carbs, portioned into containers she could grab without thinking. On the mornings she did not have to decide what to eat, she never went off plan. The willpower we saved at the fridge got spent in the gym. That is the whole trick.

She trusted the process. My process. And the process trusted her back.

The result on paper

In three and a half months she lost twenty pounds. Her strength on the trap bar deadlift went from 95 lb for a wobbly five to 155 lb for a controlled five. Her resting heart rate dropped eleven points. She walked into surgery in the best physical shape of the last decade. All of that is measurable, and all of that is on the intake sheet I still keep.

The result off paper

The number I am prouder of is not on the scale. She looked in a mirror one Tuesday morning during week ten and told me she believed she could do anything. That is the ONE benefit I sell to every client who asks what they get for their money. The mirror stops being an enemy. It becomes a receipt.

If you want that receipt for yourself, I will walk you through the same process I walked her through. It works because it is boring, honest, and impossible to fake. Nothing about it is a shortcut. Everything about it is a promise I can actually keep.
